Introduction

The Dead Puppies Society (DPS) is a fun multi-gaming clan and private club founded, sponsored and operated by JetstreamServers.com.

Benefits for members include access to members-only private slots on both DPS’s and Jetstream’s public game servers plus access to the private DPS voice channels and forums and the possibility to represent DPS in clan vs. clan competitions and leagues. We also arrange practices and special outings for members only in conjunction with allied clans on a regular basis. More than anything, joining our ranks brings you into our close-knit community of friends.

Behavior and Language

DPS does not allow cheating, threats to hack or crash a server, server attacks, unfriendly raids on other clans’ servers, deliberate spamming, attempted hacks or exploits or the use of scripts for player vs. player fights. Members found acting in this manner will immediately be banned from our game servers and from all of Jetstream’s game servers and permanently removed from the clan without warning and the details of this behavior shared with other clans and leagues and sites such as punksbusted.com.

When visiting another clan’s server, members are expected to follow the rules of the other clan’s server when in their server without complaint. Members must not recruit on another clan's servers. Likewise players may only recruit for DPS on our servers. We will ban without warning anyone recruiting for other clans on our servers. If you'd like to recruit, please pay for your own server instead of leaching off of ours!

On our own servers, we allow minor swearing and we particularly enjoy lewd smack talk. However, we only allow friendly swearing at others or friendly insulting of others. i.e. If it is obviously meant humorously and with good will such as between friends. At no times do we permit members to act nastily towards others and breach of this rule will usually lead to instant removal from the clan and a ban from our game servers. Whether or not it is meant in a friendly manner at no time do we tolerate racist comments or jokes or threats or similarly highly offensive or illegal behavior.

Members are expected to be considerate of others needs and aware of the differences in cultures one finds on the global Internet and if it is clear that someone is offended or uncomfortable with strong language, refrain within reason from swearing around that person. This is particularly true when visiting servers and clans or receiving visits from clans where the other clan has a no-swearing rule. We’re all human so if something slips out when dealing with a no-swearing group then a simple apology usually suffices but keep in mind that other groups may have young members so please do try to take better care.

Egos should be checked at the door. We were all noobs once and there is always a better player somewhere. Put downs to friends are permitted if both parties are entertained by the smack talk but one should not belittle strangers but instead encourage them with “gf” type comments and make them feel welcome with chit-chat. If you find yourself on the receiving end of some unfriendly smack talk from a visitor then please ask them to lighten up. There is always the /ignore command. In a clan match, smack talk before and during is good but if we win, it is hurtful to say “owned” afterwards (except in our private forums!) Likewise, if we lose, learn to be a good loser and not to make excuses. A simple “great match” even if it wasn’t will suffice.

Ok, there are some, ahem, exceptions to the above. When on our game servers, subject to not offending third parties, feel free to cut new assholes for:

  1. Whiners who use excuses excessively and can’t stand losing.

  2. Persons proven to use cheats.

  3. Deliberate repetitive team killers.

Tagging

Wear Your DPS Kit With Pride!

Only DPS members currently in our administrative, international and west coast divisions are entitled to wear =DPS= tags on our servers. Please check our membership page if you are unsure as to your current status. Please note that signing up for our forums doesn’t automatically make you a member of DPS, it only makes you a member of our forums.

We do not allow members to play anonymously. DPS members must always wear their =DPS= tags and official DPS name (must match their forum name) whenever playing the games that DPS host, no matter which server they are on. Members who are also Jetstream administrators may optionally wear their Jetstream tags instead but only when performing their Jetstream administrative duties. If you wish to change your forum name, just let a DPS forum administrator know and he or she will take care of that for you.

To be consistent and show our team colors, when wearing our tags, your name must always start with a white =DPS= followed by your name without any spaces between the DPS tags and the start of your name. Names can consist of alphanumeric characters only plus spaces and hyphens and the capitalization of your choice. See details of your division for the color choices available for the name part of your tags.

You may have one variations of your name bound which is the same as your normal tags and name but with a white AFK at the end to show people in-game who are not on Ventrilo with you that you are away for a short while.

Once you have set up your name with DPS tags, please consult with a senior DPS administrator before changing capitalization, spacing or characters. This is not because we want to restrict you but simply to ensure that our high scores/statistics pages tie in the new variation of your name to the old so they correctly report you as one person, not two.

You should not use =DPS= tags in your forum name. There is no need as your forum status will clearly reflect your membership to other forum users.

Multi-Clanning

Unlike most gaming clans, we allow our members to belong to other clans playing the same game(s) but with a few common-sense caveats:

You should not try to recruit DPS or visitors to our game and voice servers to your other clan or set up circumstances to aid in their recruiting to your other clan (such as inviting them to your game servers or advertising your other clan to DPS members and visitors to our servers.) If the other gaming group is solely a LAN party group and not an online clan or squad then this condition is waived. We all love a good LAN party!

Members must still wear =DPS= tags at all times leftmost while playing any of the games that we host, no exceptions. This applies to any server including your other clan’s server. This way we ensure that your other clan is aware that you’re in more than one clan and you’re being totally up-front with them.

If you want to add in another clan’s tags to your name too, that’s fine by us as long as you have =DPS= at the very beginning of your in-game name always. Example: “=DPS=/[MFrag]Doomsday”.

Your DPS forum name can just contain the other clan’s tags if you want since your forum status will reflect your DPS membership.

If the other clan participates in the same leagues/ladders as DPS then please note that you will be unable to represent DPS in any leagues/ladders but you can still take part in other clan vs. clan friendlies.

If after you joined DPS, DPS later adds a new game that introduces a conflict with your existing membership of another clan that does not allow you to wear DPS tags for that game, you must notify a DPS administrator immediately. We will then allow you a one month grace period from the date of introducing the new game for you to decide which group you prefer to be with. During this grace period, we will not enforce our DPS tag rule for the new game causing the conflict.

In-Game Communications and Authentication

Ventrilo Voice Server

All DPS members must, while playing on any DPS game server, be on the DPS Ventrilo voice server. We do not allow exceptions to this. Ventrilo is the heart of the clan and verbal communication is key to a good competitive team and a must to maintain the friendly and verbose experience that is DPS.

If you are unable to talk (perhaps it is late at night and it would disturb your family) then you must still be in Ventrilo so you can listen to team-mates at least. In addition, if you can’t talk, so we know that you are, you must use XFire to briefly communicate with a playing member that can talk to prove you are actually who you claim to be in-game.

XFire Online Status

All members should have XFire loaded when they are actively gaming away from our servers and should ideally use it as the primary means of hooking-up with other members to start some games.

It is a requirement that every member have their XFire id set up in the DPS forums so members can see at a glance from the membership page which member is online and playing which game.

Minimum Weekly Play Time

There is no minimum weekly play time required to retain DPS membership. Our assumption is that members will not wish to pay a membership fee unless they are active. Whether you are a weekend warrior or an every night gaming addict, you are equally welcome here!

We do however encourage our newer members and candidates to attend our regular weekly get-togethers for specific games. Older members need no encouragement!

Membership Fees

All members pay a $5 USD/month membership fee to Jetstream via PayPal as an automatically reoccurring subscription of $15 every 3 months that can be cancelled at any time. If you think about it, the fee is equivilent to only half a movie ticket yet it buys you a whole month of fun! It is a nominal amount that even unemployed people can easily cover yet when all of the fees are combined, it is also critical for the future of DPS. Many clans rely upon just one or two individuals to cover the cost of a game server. This doesn't work well when a clan wants to expand to a number of different games, each needing it's own server. Those clans that are lucky enough to have individuals who will foot the bill usually end up in trouble when the individuals paying move on to other games or interests. DPS aims to be here for the long term. We want to carry no dead weight and this approach also helps us to keep mainly active members plus, as we grow, gives us a lot of opportunity for branching out into other games.

We do allow an optional exception when requested where family members play off of the same public IP at the same location. In this instance, only one paid subscription is required per household. Each additional household member still needs to go through the usual recruiting process; membership is not automatically granted. We hope to encourage members' significant others to sign up with us so as to make it easier for our married members to get more game time plus this will improve the social aspect of our community.

We strongly recommend using a credit card when setting up PayPal over a bank account since a credit card can be set up instantly whereas a bank account can take many days to set up plus often payments can be delayed. Please note that we only accept PayPal subscriptions. One off payments are not acceptable (unless a member wishes to pay for an entire year up-front) due to the administrative overhead necessary in keeping track and chasing up.

Jetstream provides DPS with free forums, a free web site, a free voice server, free high speed downloads of custom maps we are hosting plus one free game server. Jetstream also sometimes provides free experimental game servers from time to time so members can get a taste of new games or mods. The $5/month fees go towards additional game servers from Jetstream at discounted prices above and beyond those provided gratis. Thus as our membership increases, the number of game servers we offer to our members also increases. Any membership fees left over each month from the membership dues that isn’t enough to pay for an additional discounted server is retained to Jetstream to help defray the cost of operating the free game server. The actual choice of which additional servers to host is made by either polling the entire membership or by a steering committee voted in by the membership.

Cancellation

A member can cancel their membership and subscription at any time by either informing Jetstream through the forums in advance of any renewal or by directly canceling themselves via the PayPal web site prior to a renewal.

Jetstream can cancel a member’s subscription and membership in DPS at any time via the PayPal web site. Generally Jetstream will only do so if the member is acting abusively or in breach of rules.

PayPal may also cancel a membership at any time by canceling the subscription. If a member has insufficient funds available then subscription payments are attempted again twice four and seven days later. Eventually, if still the funds are still insufficient PayPal will close the subscription automatically.

When a subscription terminates, the payer ceases to be a DPS clan member and must immediately remove their DPS tags. If the reason was due to insufficient funds then if the payer contacts Jetstream within two weeks and successfully arranges to restart their subscription, their membership shall be reinstated. If the period is longer or an ex-member left for other reasons and wishes to rejoin, they have to go through the recruitment process again as for any new member.

Please note that membership subscription payments are non-refundable.

Recruitment Requirements and Divisions

Although the emphasis is on friendship, camaraderie and fun we are also highly competitive and as a result we have two equally ranked divisions that we are currently recruiting for, The International Division and The West Coast Division, each with a slightly different emphasis.

To apply to join DPS, please visit the Join Us page and complete an application form there. The minimum requirements for each of our divisions are as set out below.

General Requirements

DPS Administrators can delay membership being granted until these conditions are met. In addition Jetstream reserves the right to veto membership.

Regardless of which division applied to:

  1. All candidates must have XFire loaded when playing our games and must publish their XFire id in their DPS forums profile.

  2. All candidates must, before they can become members, prove to a DPS Administrator that they can talk at the same time as others on the same Ventrilo channels without providing echo-back. i.e. That they are not using a microphone and speakers but instead are using a headset.. A USB headset is preferred but not required. The DPS Administrator will also ensure that there is not too much static, the person is intelligible, not too loud and not too quiet. The DPS Administrator will also perform a sanity check on the prospective member’s minimum age requirement based upon how they interact and sound.

  3. Once a poll passes, the candidate will have a PayPal link provided to them and then they will have two weeks to complete their PayPal subscription. If they are unable to do so then they will need to reapply from scratch when ready.

Additionally, members can request to be moved from the International Division to the West Coast Division and vice-versa without any poll or sponsorship providing that they meet all of the other requirements for their new division.

International Division

Focus:This division can take part in matches between clans, excluding leagues and ladders, and is primarily social.
Colors:White tags. Name predominantly blue with optional cyan, dark green and black.
Minimum Age:16 years, give or take a few months.
Maximum Ping:There is no limit on the maximum ping to DPS's game servers.
Skill Level:Must know etiquette and all game types for games in common with DPS.
Attendance:Must’ve been noted as a regular on one of our servers by one of the members.
Limitations:Unable to play in North American leagues or ladders but can take part in any other matches.
General Recruitment:Must be sponsored by two existing DPS members in the Join Us forum after using the “Join Us” page to apply then a DPS Administrator will perform XFire and Ventrilo tests before setting up a poll for the entire DPS membership to vote on. During the poll, the prospect advances to Candidate status. In order for a poll to pass, less than 10% of the current membership must vote no and there must be more yes than no votes by the end of the two week period of the poll.
Special Recruitment:Members of NT, the New Temple of the Jedi clan, a JK2 only clan together with ex-members from that clan who maintain a good relationship with both NT and Jetstream may automatically join without vote but with sponsorship by a DPS Administrator providing they meet all of the other requirements, as may persons who are currently Jetstream administrators. We make this special allowance for NT as NT is a clan that has been around for many years that was also founded by the primary owner of Jetstream and, in addition, our initial ten members that kick-started DPS came from NT. DPS is endorsed by NT as the official multi-game clan for NT members to migrate to as NT will remain JK2 only.

West Coast Division

Focus:This division can take part in leagues and ladders as well as friendly scrims and is primarily competitive.
Colors:White tags. Name predominantly red with optional magenta, orange and yellow.
Minimum Age:18 years. (Jetstream may allow 16+ if the player is exceptionally skilled and mature.)
Maximum Ping:65ms to DPS's game servers. (Jetstream may allow over 65ms if the player is highly skilled.)
Skill Level:Must be able to hold their own with most DPS players. If server stats are reported. Kills to death ratio must be positive.
Attendance:Must’ve been noted as an almost daily regular on both game and voice servers by several members.
Limitations:Able to play in leagues, ladders and all forms of clan vs. clan matches.
General Recruitment:Must be sponsored by two existing DPS members (who will confirm the skill level) after applying then a DPS Administrator will perform XFire and Ventrilo tests before setting up a poll for the entire DPS membership to vote on. During the poll, the prospect advances to Candidate status. In order for a poll to pass, less than 10% of the current membership must vote no and there must be more yes than no votes by the end of the two week period of the poll.
Special Recruitment:None. All candidates must prove their connection, skills and dedication.

Administrative Division

General Notes:Only Jetstream may appoint existing members to this division from other divisions.
Administrative Division members (ADs) will retain the same rights/colors as the division from which they came to this division (and will return to their previous division if losing just their admin rights.)
In addition, ADs will have forum moderation and game server administrative rights including rcon.
Only ADs may use an alias to check out a specific complaint against a member anonymously but only providing the use of an alias has been agreed by at least one other AD.
So there is no confusion, individual members in the other divisions may be given rcon rights on some of DPS game server by Jetstream. This does not make them an AD. ADs are responsible for moving prospective members through the application process and ensuring that the membership rules are followed. Likewise a DPS AD is not necessarily a Jetstream Administrator. JetstreamServers.com is a separate entity.

Teams, Captains and Competitions

All times published must be in PST.

Any member can form a team, subject to the divisional limitations given above, for one game type only in one specific game where DPS has a server. All that is required is that a set time each week is published for practices. (Must not interfere with any existing regularly scheduled DPS get-togethers.)

When a practice time is first established, the person forming the team is the acting captain and the team may not yet accept challenges. For the first three weeks of training, screenshots of those attending (such as final scores) should be posted as proof of who attended.

If enough people attend each practice in the first three weeks and also there is enough consistency that the same people attend each week, DPS Administrators will announce that the team is approved, at which point the entire clan elects a new captain (re-electable every two months) and the team can accept and issue challenges and enter leagues.

The team must have a regular weekly scheduled practice of at least an hour. If attendance falls below a minimal number, in the view of the Jetstream Administrators, for two weeks in a row then the team will be disbanded and can no longer accept matches or partake in leagues.

We strongly encourage our members to form teams to enter reputable leagues such as the following:

Our Most Important Rule

Our most important rule lies somewhere between "Have fun!", "Play nice!" and "Kick butt!"

A sick and twisted sense of humor, preferably of the depraved and politically incorrect kind is a must for our members but at the same time we like to temper this with consideration for our guests and a dedication to skilled play. (Practice baby, practice!)

Miscellaneous Information

Administrative and/or RCon rights and who gets them are entirely the prerogative of JetstreamServers.com. Only a very few members will be entrusted with admin rights and only after agreeing to be responsible financially for any damage or additional overheads in bandwidth/CPU usage. Please do not pester a Jetstream admin for admin. as this is a sure-fire way of getting turned down. It’s ok to mention in passing once in a while that you don’t have admin but in the same way a visitor may pester you re joining the clan, please don’t pester your fellow members or admins.

Please note that these regulations may be adapted and appended to from time to time as circumstances dictate by JetstreamServers.com, in consultation where necessary with the DPS membership. When changes occur, we will publish them to the news section of the DPS forums so all members are aware.

Both members and guests are additionally expected to follow the rules we have for posting on our forums, which can be seen in our forums area.
